If you love scenery and beautiful places then there is only one place for you; Lake Vermillion. Located in north east Minnesota the lake was originally called (by the Native Americans) Lake Onamuni; the lake of the sunset glow. There is a very good reason for this; the sunset and sunrise over the lake is one of the most beautiful in the United States. With the backdrop being the Mesabi Iron mountain range, it is a unique pleasure to watch as the sun slowly rises and bathes the lake slowly in a bright glow. The sky in the evening is awash with color as the red hue hangs in the air before the lake slowly descends into darkness.
Although it has often been claimed that the National Geographic Society declared the lake as one of the top ten most scenic lakes in the United States, this has been denied by the society who say that no such claim had ever been made. However, the general consensus amongst the population is that it would have been the right thing to say. The lake is truly stunning and if you are in the area, to miss out on the opportunity to see one of the sites that is, unanimously, viewed as one of the most beautiful places in North America is to miss the opportunity of a lifetime. Once you have seen the sunset or sunrise you will be unable to feel anything other than complete relaxation; it is such a serene moment.
